Keynote Tuesday 03 December - "Universal Safeguards for Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI)"
- Chahine HAMILA, eGovernment Senior Advisor, UNDP
- Robert OPP, Chief Digital Officer, UNDP
At the end of 2023, world leaders adopted a Pact for the Future that includes a Global Digital Compact and a Declaration on Future Generations. This Pact is the culmination of an inclusive, years-long process to adapt international cooperation to the realities of today and the challenges of tomorrow. The Global Digital Compact is the first comprehensive global framework for digital cooperation and AI governance.
In his Policy Brief on ‘A Global Digital Compact — an Open, Free and Secure Digital Future for All’, the UN Secretary-General calls for commons frameworks and standards on digital public infrastructure (DPI). This call reflects the growing interest and investments in DPI and the risks associated with society-wide digital systems.
The DPI Safeguards Initiative was launched by the Office of the UN Secretary-General's Envoy on Technology (OSET) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), aiming to co-create a pragmatic framework for countries seeking to implement DPIs with safeguard principles, practices, and governance at its core.
